Xiaolongbao, Cruzcampo and brunch | Stephanita Eats | January 2019
The El Paso Ranchero and Pork Belly Benedict from Jake's in Northampton, Mass.
Happy 2019! This month, I had the opportunity to attend the Specialty Food Association's Fancy Food Show in San Francisco and got to sample all things food and drink from around the world and reconnect with some industry friends.
Fit for print:
It was a lighter month on the editorial side, but I've got a few things cooking :::cringe::: that will go live in the next month or so. I am excited to share my first travel piece, where I learned about the craft beer scene in the city of Seville in southern Spain. It's now a city I love and will be returning to soon.
Reads to snack on: It's an audiobook and a collection of food writing this month. I'm also starting to watch Salt, Fat, Acid & Heat on Netflix and have to give that a shoutout as well. The first episode, "Fat" brings us to Italy, one of my favorite countries, and is a beautiful exploration of food.
You and I Eat the Same | On the Countless Ways Food and Cooking Connect Us to One Another edited by Chris Ying, forward by Rene Redzepi
Only in Naples, Lessons in Food and Famiglia from my Mother in Law by Katherine Wilson
Three Eats: three restaurant picks that I've eaten at in the last month that (or so) that I might not write about (yet) but are worth checking out:
The Lantern, Pittsfield, Mass: A local spot that's been lovingly restored and reopened by Bjorn Somlo of Nudel in Lenox. Open for dinner. Go for the twin bacon cheeseburgers and the patty melt for a sure win.
Hang Ah Dim Sum Tea House, San Francisco: It's the first dim sum restaurant in the United States, and has been around since 1920! Check out this video Eater did. Shout-outs to the BBQ Pork Buns, Scallion pancakes, and the Xiaolongbao.
Judy's Restaurant, Amherst, Mass: Having gone to school in Amherst, I always think of Judy's as the place you take your parents when they are in town. Their popovers with apple butter are what they are known for and really, you can go without your parents. I go with my mom, but that's what makes it special.
What's the good food word on your end? Reply to this email and let me know! See you in February!
