Craft beer cool, lots of diner talk, and podcasts to cook to | Stephanita Eats Feb/March
The Ugly Duck at Thistle & Mirth, Pittsfield, Mass.
Well, I did it. I missed February...let alone March! I was sick for a good amount of the February, and March was a quiet month so I'm happy to be back on track. Daylight savings, hints of sun and warmer temperatures are in sight. Now on to the news!
Fit for print:
Most of February was spent writing and researching future stories. My friends have been suggesting that I write posts and blog on my website, so I did some of that as well.
Reads to snack on: The past couple of months have been about food-related podcasts. As I've been cooking at home more, these have been an inspiration for future travels and good eats. Snack on and listen in!
Pantry Raid by Hannah Messenger is a podcast about cooking. Every Monday, Hannah gives you ideas and advice about one ingredient that will help you make more food and less waste.
For those who love Italian food as much as I do, Gola is for you! Hosted by food journalist Katie Parla and culinary historian Dr. Danielle Callegari each episode covers a dish or aspect of Italian food and how it connects to history, culture, and society.
Cookbook collector? I know a few of you are! Salt + Spine is a podcast focused on the craft of cookbooks featuring in-depth interviews with popular authors. I've just started this one and really enjoyed the episode with Alison Roman, and excited to listen to the recent one with Carla Hall!
Three Eats: three restaurant picks that I've eaten at in the last month that (or so) that I might not write about (yet) but are worth checking out:
Blueberry Hill Market Cafe, New Lebanon, NY: Go get brunch at Blueberry Hill if you are in the area. It's a short drive over the hill from the Berkshires. This family-friendly spot offers a wide breakfast and lunch brunch options, and make sure to grab something from the pastry case to bring home.
Carson's Store, Noank, CT: Carson's Store has been open for breakfast and lunch since 1907! Diner food and great service, the decor is straight from the 1950s.
Little Goat Diner, Chicago, IL: Ok, so I'm on a diner kick this issue, but can you blame me? I try to eat here every time I come to my adopted food city. One of the many restaurants owned by chef Stephanie Izard, Little Goat focuses on gourmet takes on comfort food classics and have a sweet cocktail list too.
How's Spring shaping up so far? Are you as happy that it's daylight savings in New England as I am? Any restaurants that you think I should check out? Reply to this email and let me know. See you in May!
xo,
Stephanie
